In the beginning…

First, an introduction... My name is Dave, and am currently as of 2018, 52 years old. During my Naval career I was pretty active and at 36 years old, even trained to run a 26.2 mile marathon. In fact training for that marathon is a major contributing factor to the health and weight issues that I'm now dealing with. In the months leading up to the race, I was running 7-9 miles per day, 6 days per week. I've never had a runners physique and in my youth was a competition weightlifter. So long story short, I injured a hip and it has severely limited my ability to exercise. To compound matters, I had never had to watch my diet because I was so active. In my arrogance, I lived by the motto that the first 3 letters in the word diet, spelled DIE. Well now we fast forward 15 years... In December 2017 just after Christmas, I stepped on the scale and it read 277, and I'm only 5 foot 9 inches tall! I've been over 200 pounds all of my adult life and over 250 for the last 10 years. But 277 was too close to 300 and I thought that if I want to be around to see my grandkids graduate form school... I've got to do something about that number! I tried a paleo diet in early 2017 and struggled with a 10-12 lb. loss over 6 months and it ended in frustration and disappointment. I ended up gaining it all back plus a little! So I had no Idea how I was going to lose the weight, but was desperate because nothing had worked for me! I had listened to the “experts” ate low fat everything, and nothing helped! Fortunately for me, December 29, 2017, we decided to host the UFC fights at the house and invited several friends. One of the people that came, I hadn't seen in 6 months or more and when he walked in, I was shocked at the change since I had seen him last. He said that he'd lost 34 lbs. in 4 months on the keto diet. I asked how much he was exercising and he said, “hardly at all actually.” I had to learn more! For the next week I read everything on keto that I could find! I started my Ketogenic journey the first week of January 2018 and this morning (6/14/2018) after coffee, I weighed 226. How did I do it? That's what this blog will be about. I have no intention of selling you anything, because I didn't buy any expensive supplements or meal plans. I just changed the food I was buying at the grocery store. A little over 5 months later, at 52 years old, I've lost 51 pounds
